Mission Hills is located within the triangle of Interstate 8 and Interstate 5 bordering Hillcrest to the east and the Midway district on the west. It's nestled just north of the San Diego international Airport.
Mission Hills is an upscale, affluent neighborhood with beautiful views of downtown and is part of the uptown community planning area. This area is primarily residential but it does feature a few shops and restaurants. There are two recreational parks within the neighborhood and the San Diego Public Library has a branch located with in Mission Hills.
Dating back to the early 20th century, Mission Hills was one of the many San Diego neighborhoods connected by the class I streetcars in the 1910s. It is still part of the extensive San Diego public transit systems. There are several historical districts with older homes, vintage architecture and single-family properties interspersed with new townhomes and condominium buildings. There are also several mid century apartment complexes as well.
Mission Hills is part of the San Diego unified school District and has the grant elementary school with in its boundaries. However, there's no public high school in this neighborhood so students are given the choice of attending the Point Loma high school or the San Diego high school. There's also several private and religious schools in Mission Hills including the Francis Parker school.
